What camera equipment do I use?…and what is medium format?

I use a combination of professional Nikon digital cameras, and a variety of film cameras. Some people might have an idea in their head that film is not has high quality as its digital counterparts, and while film can be tricky, it can be exceptionally high quality with the right gear, and in the right hands. For viewing online or making enlarged prints it produces a fantastic image.

About

This particular camera that is pictured on the bottom right, is a Mamiya 645 from 1975.
These type of cameras are no longer made for film, and they have a very distinctive look
that boasts incredible quality and a very short depth of field, even from metres away.
This is very difficult for most cameras to achieve and it's a look I personally love for portrait photography which is why I use this camera for all my bookings.

Why film?

Since digital photography became commercially available and affordable to the masses, interest and the use of film has been on a steady decline. But a recent boom of popularity has pushed it back into the spotlight, but why? Well myself and many others believe that film creates a very specific look and feeling that digital cannot reproduce.

The way film is able to capture light and colours is a feat that draws even directors like Quentin Tarantino and Christopher Nolan amongst others, to continue to make movies on film. Digital photography certainly has its place, but for something special, film is best.
